Wide range of programmes kicked off in Southern Province under Green and Blue Project

Several Corporate Social Responsibility events operated under the Green and Blue Project - a conceptual notion suggested by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, were held in the Southern Province on 29th February 2020. The events were conducted under the directives of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul.

One of these CSR programmes was conducted in Maduganga and its lagoon area which is a popular tourist destination and has become a wetland of international importance under Ramsar Convention. Naval personnel managed to remove a lot of polythene, plastic and other garbage from the sites which are home to several endemic plant and animal species.

Meanwhile, naval personnel also slaved away to restore the beauty of Paravi Wella beach in Tangalle and the beach near Hambantota Children’s Park by cleaning those sites which had become untidy as collection of garbage over a long period of time.
