Navy bids adieu to Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe

Sri Lanka Navy today (03rd March 2020) bade farewell to Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe who relinquished his naval duties to which he was committed in the past 35 years.

The Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva along with Director Generals of the Navy extended best wishes to the retiring senior officer who is celebrating his 55th birthday today. Thereupon, Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions. After fellow naval officers made their formal farewells to the retiring senior officer, senior and junior sailors making a street line bade farewell to Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe who was sent off amidst cheers.

Rear Admiral Merril Wickramasinghe joined the Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer Cadet of the 13th Intake in 1985.The outgoing officer held a number of key appointments such as; Deputy Area Commander Northwestern Naval Command, Director Naval Operations, Commander North Central, Northern and Eastern Naval Areas etc. during his distinguished naval career.
