Navy Commander delivers keynote address at workshop on ‘Water Security and Disaster Management in Asia’

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva delivered the keynote address at the workshop on ‘Water Security and Disaster Management in Asia’ held at Colombo Hilton today (03rd March 2020).

The workshop aims to analyze the threats to water security in the face of worsening hydro-meteorological disasters due to climate change, as well as the methods of integrating disaster management into water governance. The Navy Commanders’ address focused on Water Security and Disaster Management: Lessons learnt from Sri Lanka and best practices.

The event was hosted by the East West Institute, the Regional Project Energy Security and Climate Change Asia-Pacific of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS RECAP), the Institute of National Security Studies Sri Lanka (INSSSL) and the Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks (COSATT).

The occasion was also attended by naval officers, decision-makers, leading influencers and field experts.
