VBSS Course conducted for personnel of Indian Ocean Region countries commences in Trincomalee

The Visit Board Search & Seizure (VBSS) Course conducted for personnel of Indian Ocean Region countries affiliated to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme commenced at the Special Boat Squadron Training School in Trincomalee on 09th March 2020.

The 02 – week – long training programme is conducted following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and it is being attended by 26 foreign and local students from Maritime Police personnel of Indonesia (05), Maritime personnel of Malaysia (08) and Sri Lanka Navy (13).

This special training programme will be carried out in such a manner enabling the participants to pick the brain of experienced SLN personnel to hone their knowledge mainly on VBSS boarding team procedures in to vessels (smuggling or migrant vessels) and maritime law enforcement operations in territorial waters, Exclusive Economic Zone and high seas.
