Two persons held for keeping Kerala cannabis in possession

The Navy apprehended 02 persons with Kerala cannabis in their possession, during a routine patrol in the sea area north of Talaimannar Lighthouse today (20th March 2020).

The Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting extensive surveillance in the seas around the island and has managed to foil a large number of drug smuggling attempts. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel belonging to the North Central Naval Command conducted a search operation in the seas north of Talaimannar Lighthouse and had intercepted a suspicious dinghy. During further search, the naval personnel managed to find 55g of Kerala cannabis in the possession of two persons aboard, whom were subsequently taken into naval custody.

The apprehended persons were identified as residents of Mannar and Pesalai areas, each aged 29. Meanwhile, the suspects along with Kerala cannabis and dinghy were handed over to the Mulankavil Police for onward action.
