Navy assists expansion of facilities of ICUs at Ragama Hospital and Colombo National Hospital

The Navy on 22nd and 23rd March 2020 commenced expansion of facilities of Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama and Colombo National Hospital.

The renovation of the ICUs of the Teaching Hospital, Ragama and Colombo National Hospital began on 22nd and 23rd of March and the manpower for construction work was provided by Sri Lanka Navy, in a bid to swiftly put up necessary facilities to treat the patients diagnosed with COVID -19.

A group of naval civil engineers attached to the Western Naval Command were assigned to this task on the instructions of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. As such, construction work is in progress to create partitioned spaces of the ICUs of both hospitals, in case their necessity is felt to treat patients diagnosed with COVID -19.

Accordingly, the Navy, with its abled bodied men and naval civil engineers, is working in full swing around the clock to complete the renovation work as soon as possible, to meet this urgent need.
