Navy carries out several disinfection programmes in Jaffna

To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in the country, a programme to disinfect several places of Jaffna was launched today (25th March 2020).

On the instruction of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, the Navy is carrying out a number of sterilization programmes in public places to control the spread of the new coronavirus in the country. Going by this initiative, the sterilization programmes were conducted at Ministry of Health Indigenous Medicine and Probation Child Care Services office complex and Provincial Department of Health Services Northern Province complex including Chest Clinic in Jaffna. Upon the request of the authorities of Health Ministry of North Province from Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit attached to the Northern Naval Command carried out the disinfection programmes.

The CBRN Unit executed the task covering all areas of said premises, following the proper guidelines for sanitization and disinfection. Meanwhile, the Navy is taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the virus for public safety in the future.
