Navy seizes dinghy with about 30kg of illegally caught fish

The Navy seized a dingy filled with 30kg of illegally caught (blast fishing) fish in the beach area of Erakkandi, Trincomalee today (25th March 2020).

Sri Lanka Navy regularly conducts patrols in island’s waters to safeguard the marine and fisheries resources belonging to the country. During a search operation in the beach area of Erakkandi, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command managed to find a suspicious dinghy on the beach. In the dinghy were about 30kg of illegally caught (blast fishing) fish, 02 water gel sticks and a safety fuse (3½ inches) and the items were taken into naval custody.

The seized stock of fish, explosives, dinghy and other fishing gear were subsequently handed over to the Kuchchaveli Police for further investigations.
