Navy continues renovation of Infectious Diseases Unit at District General Hospital – Vavuniya

The Navy is continuing renovation of the Infectious Diseases Unit of District General Hospital, Vavuniya, in a bid to make it ready to treat patients who contracted COVID-19.

In light of the rapidly evolving COVID-19 outbreak, Sri Lanka Navy sprang into action to renovate the Infectious Diseases Unit of District General Hospital, Vavuniya, to make it all set for treatment of patients who contracted COVID-19. The construction work began on 23rd March 2020 and it is being augmented by naval manpower. A group of civil engineers attached to the Western Naval Command has been assigned to this task on the instructions of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and under the guidance of Commander North Central Naval Area, Rear Admiral Lalith Dissanayake. As such, construction work is now in progress to build isolation wards in the Infectious Diseases Unit, in case its necessity is felt to treat patients diagnosed with COVID -19.

Through initiatives of this nature, the Navy is determined to enhance the coordinated efforts of the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus, in the future as well.
