Navy conducts blood donation campaigns in Northern and Eastern Naval Commands

Blood donation campaigns organized by the Northern and Eastern Naval Commands were held today (27th March 2020), with the participation of naval personnel attached to the respective commands.

In consequence of the effects of novel coronavirus, taking it as a national requirement to keep the stored blood reserves in blood banks across the country without shortage, these blood donation campaigns were organized under the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. One blood donation campaign was held at SLNS Uththara under the guidance of Deputy Chief of Staff of SL Navy and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera while the other one was held at Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee under the guidance of Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Ruwan Perera. A large number of naval personnel attached to the two Naval Commands volunteered to donate their blood, for this worthy cause in need.

The staffs of Jaffna Teaching Hospital, Jaffna-Thelippalai Rural Hospital, Mulativu General Hospital and Trincomalee Base Hospital and Naval medical staff also made a praiseworthy contribution for the successful conduct of these events. Meanwhile, the Navy is ready to make the best of its contribution in future eventualities having realized the national interests.
