Navy assists apprehension of suspect with crystal methamphetamine

The Navy apprehended a person with crystal methamphetamine (ice), during a coordinated search conducted with the Pesalai Police at Periyakasal in Pesalai, Mannar on 31st March 2020.

While assisting the control of the prevailing COVID -19 outbreak in the island, the Navy is continuing its operations for the defence of the country. Accordingly, a group of naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command together with the Pesalai Police conducted a search operation and detected a suspected person at Periyakasal in Pesalai, Mannar on 31st March 2020. During further search, 810mg of crystal methamphetamine (ice) had been found in his possession. Subsequently, the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as a 40-year-old resident of the same area. The Pesalai Police is conducting further investigation into the incident.
