Navy organizes blood donation campaign at District General Hospital Hambantota

A blood donation campaign jointly organized by Naval Deployment – Hambantota and Blood Transfusion Unit of the District General Hospital Hambantota was held with the participation of naval personnel at the hospital premises on 01st April 2020.

Responding to a request of the Director Blood Transfusion Service, this initiative was launched to maintain enough blood reserves in blood banks across the island, following the effect of COVID-19 outbreak. Going by the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and guidance of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul this blood donation campaign was held at the District General Hospital Hambantota. A large number of naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command voluntarily donated blood for the successful conduct of the event.

The staff of Blood Transfusion Unit of the District General Hospital Hambantota also rendered their all-out assistance for this magnanimous effort. Meanwhile, the Navy also stands ready to extend their maximum contribution to similar efforts, considering the national requirement in this hour of need.
