Navy assists transfer of essential supplies to Delft Island for distribution

The Navy, on 03rd April 2020, rendered assistance to transfer essential supplies to the Delft Island for distribution among community. As a measure to curb the spread of novel coronavirus in the country, the government introduced a new mechanism to deliver essential supplies to the doorstep of community.

Going by this initiative, the Navy conducted a programme to transfer essential commodities, drawn from ‘Sathosa’ outlets, to the Delft Island by naval craft and distribute them among community on the island. Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva and supervision of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera, this initiative was executed by naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command.

The Navy will continue to conduct the distribution of essential commodities among communities in the island sector, who are facing hardships with the imposition of curfew across the country.
