Navy conducted disinfection programmes at Karativu and Department of Pensions, Colombo.

To combat the spread of the new coronavirus in the country, the Navy conducted several sterilization programmes in a few places at Karaitivu and the Department of Pensions in Colombo on 06th and 07th April 2020.

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, these disinfection programmes were conducted by Navy’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit. Responding to a request of the Medical Officer of Health-Kayts, the Deputy Chief of Staff of Navy and Commander Northern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera instructed to disinfect a few places visited by a person infected with coronavirus in Karaitivu, Jaffna. Besides, a similar sterilization programme was also carried out by Navy’s CBRN Unit at the Department of Pensions in Colombo.

The CBRN Unit executed the task covering all areas of aforesaid premises, following proper guidelines for sanitization and disinfection. Meanwhile, the Navy is taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the virus for public safety in the future.
