Navy finds unauthorized fishing net off Trincomalee harbour

During a patrol conducted in the sea area off Trincomalee harbour on 19^th April 2020, the Navy found an unauthorized fishing net cast to catch fish.

In view of safeguarding the marine ecosystem, Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular patrols to nab people who are engaging in in illegal fishing activities. During a similar patrol conducted in the sea area off Trincomalee harbour, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command managed to find this unauthorized fishing net. Subsequently, it was seized by the Navy.

Meanwhile, the seized fishing net was handed over to the Assistant Directorate of Fisheries of Batticaloa, through Sri Lanka Coast Guard for onward action.
