Navy apprehends four persons for distilling and sale of illicit liquor

The Navy, during a mobile patrol conducted at Sethapola area in Puttalam on 22ndApril 2020 and search operations conducted in Wennapuwa area on 22nd and 23rd April 2020, raided three places used to distil and sale illicit liquor. By these raids, distilled illegal liquor, moonshine (Goda), equipment used for distilling and four (04) suspects were apprehended.

Naval personnel attached to the Northwestern Naval Command, during a mobile patrol conducted at Sethapola area in Puttalam on 22nd April 2020, raided a den in shrubby area which was secretly used for distilling illicit liquor and apprehended about 50 bottles of illicit liquor, 530 bottles of moonshine (Goda), few equipment used for distilling and two (02) suspects.

Further, during another search operation conducted at two locations in Wennappuwa area on 22nd and 23rd April 2020, the raiding party managed to apprehend a suspect who was secretly distilling illicit liquor. Along with the suspect, about 15 bottles of illicit liquor, 25 bottles of moonshine (Goda) and several equipment used to distil liquor were taken into custody. Another person who was selling illicit liquor was also apprehended by Navy.

The suspects have been identified as residents of Karamba, Mampuri, Wennappuwa and Waikkala areas aged between 21-51. These suspects along with apprehended illicit liquor, moonshine (Goda) and brewery equipment were handed over to Norochchole and Wennappuwa Police stations for onward action.
