Navy holds three persons for cutting mangrove shrubs

SL Navy nabbed 03 persons who were cutting mangrove shrubs, during a raid carried out at Thirukethishwaram lagoon area in Mannar, on 23rd April 2020.

SL Navy is always committed to protect the ocean and to conserve the marine eco system. Accordingly, a group of Naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, nabbed 03 persons who were cutting mangrove shrubs, during a raid carried out at Thirukethishwaram lagoon area in Mannar. A knife used for cutting mangrove, a dinghy and OBM were taken into naval custody. The suspects are residents of Mannar area in the ages of 31-42 and they along with apprehended dinghy and OBM were handed over to the office of the Wildlife Conservation Department at Madu further investigation.

This mangrove eco system which is an authentic resource activate against the soil erosion, is destroyed only by very few people and SL Navy keeps a watchful eye on such groups to foil their attempts.
