Fisherman suddenly fallen with CVA brought ashore by Navy for treatment

Sri Lanka Navy, today (04th May 2020), brought ashore a fisherman who was suddenly fallen sick with Paralysis (Cerebral Vascular Accident) aboard a fishing trawler which had left for deep sea fishing from Beruwala fisheries harbour.

Sri Lanka Navy which is always geared to assist distressed fishing folk and naval community in Sri Lankan territorial waters, through search and rescue missions, conducted an operation of this kind in the Southern coastal line, today. Based on information disseminated by the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, to retrieve a fisherman who was down with a Paralysis condition onboard a multiday fishing trawler ‘Prasad 04’ which had left for fishing from Beruwala fisheries harbour, Sri Lanka Navy promptly dispatched a Fast Attack Craft attached to the Southern Naval Command to the deep sea area where the trawler was fishing.

Accordingly, the ill fisherman was safely taken aboard the naval vessel following all healthcare measures under this pandemic, about 32 nautical miles (60km) off Galle. The patient was administered first aid aboard the vessel by the Naval medical team and rushed him to the Galle harbour. Having brought ashore, the patient was hurried to the Teaching Hospital-Karapitiya by ‘Suvasariya’ ambulance for further treatment.

According to the International Law of the Sea, Sri Lanka Navy is aware of supporting to the international ships as well as the Sri Lankan vessels which face accidents or undergo distress within the Sri Lankan Search and Rescue Region.
