First COVID-19 infected naval person discharged from hospital

Five heroic naval persons including the first naval person from Polonnaruwa area and other four naval personnel tested positive to COVID-19 who had been admitted for treatment, being tested negative to COVID-19 by PCR tests, were discharged from the hospitals on 08th and 09th May 2020.

These five naval personnel including the first infected one were identified positive to coronavirus while serving at Welisara Naval Base. The first infected naval person who was on leave suffered from fever and admitted to Polonnaruwa hospital for treatment and being tested positive to COVID-19 he was admitted to Welikanda hospital for further treatment. Other four naval personnel who were also identified positive to coronavirus and admitted to Homagama and IDH Hospitals for treatment. Since, these sailors found negative to COVID-19 on the reports of random PCR tests done in and after treatment, they were discharged on 08th and 09th May 2020.

Accordingly, including these 05 persons, 21 naval personnel have been discharged from hospitals after tested negative to COVID-19. Further, these discharged naval personnel were directed to be kept under quarantine for another 14 days following the healthcare instructions.
