Navy removes debris underside Agaliya bridge as prior response to flood threat

The Navy on 09th May 2020, sprang into action to remove branches and twigs of trees and debris collected at the underside of Galle, Agaliya bridge which made the area in danger of flooding due to its blockage of free down flow.

As a result of possible heavy downpour ahead, the water level of Gin Ganga will increase. In this backdrop, as a prior preparation, the underside of the Agaliya bridge over the Gin Ganga which was blocked with large bamboo trees, branches of trees and debris, were removed and made free down flow by a team of Navy divers along with naval personnel attached to the Southern Naval Command under the guidance of Commander Southern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul, on 09th May 2020. The action was taken to clear the blockage averting a possible flood situation which could affect people residing in houses close to the river banks.

The Navy which is extending an immense contribution to control the pandemic situation in the country, is kept ready to respond to any situation related to the protection of general public.
