Navy apprehends person with cache of explosive used for illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended a person with a cache of explosive used for illegal fishing, during a patrol conducted at Jinnapuram area in Pulmodai on 08th June 2020.

Since explosive fishing can wreak havoc on the marine ecosystem, the Navy is frequently conducting operations to thwart such illegal attempts. As extension of such operations, a team of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command, during a patrol at Jinnapuram area in Pulmodai observed a suspicious dinghy heading the shore and searched it on landing. By the search, 69g of unidentified explosive mixed with sand, 03 non electric detonators, 03 safety fuse each in 04 inch length were recovered. Accordingly, the dinghy along with a person and fishing gear were apprehended.

The suspect has been identified as a resident of Muthur area, aged 41. He along with the dinghy and explosive items were handed over to the Pulmodai Police for onward investigation.
