Newly constructed isolation ward complex and shipwright workshop in Northern Naval Command declared open

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva on 18th June 2020 declared open an isolation ward complex constructed at the command hospital premises for the treatment of COVID – 19 cases and a shipwright workshop equipped with the latest technology.

Following the directives of Commander of the Navy and supervision of Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Kapila Samaraweera this isolation ward complex was built in preparation for the widespread COVID -19 global pandemic. Further, this isolated ward complex, built at the Northern Command Naval Hospital premises, was completed within a short period of one month, in accordance with the COVID-19 standard guidelines. The ward complex is equipped with standard facilities required to occupy COVID – 19 patients and a special unit for treating them. Apart from that, the ward complex provides residential care to 12 patients at a time.

Meanwhile, the newly opened shipwright workshop, featuring the latest technology, will undertake repair work on all hull related matters of ships and craft deployed in operations, attached to the Northern Naval Command.

Further, these events were held in line with the health advice given as a result of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Director General Engineering, Rear Admiral KWARI Ranasinghe, Director General Civil Engineering, Rear Admiral ASK Senadheera, Deputy Area Commander – North and a group of naval personnel were also present on this occasion.
