Navy apprehends 03 persons for engaging in fishing without valid permit

The Navy apprehended 03 persons for engaging in fishing without valid permit in the sea area of Talaimannar on 18th June 2020.

Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular patrols in island’s waters in view of protecting the ocean as well as fishery resources. Accordingly, an Inshore Patrol Craft belonging to the North Central Naval Command had spotted a suspicious dinghy, while patrolling the off Talaimannar sea area. The 03 persons aboard the suspicious dinghy were engaging in fishing without valid permit. Accordingly, the suspects along with 01 dinghy and several fishing gear were taken into naval custody.

The accused who are from 22 to 31 years of age were identified as residents of Pesalai. Meanwhile, the apprehended persons together with the seized items were handed over to the Assistant Directorate Fisheries of Mannar for onward investigation
