Navy held 02 persons with dinghy without valid fishing pass

The Navy on 30th June 2020 held 02 persons along with a dinghy for engaging in fishing without valid pass. The apprehension was made during a foot patrol in the beach area of Wankaleipadu, Talaimannar.

The Navy has been conducting operations to preserve the fishery resources in territorial waters of the island. Accordingly, naval personnel attached to the North Central Naval Command, during a foot patrol in the beach area of Wankaleipadu, searched a dinghy and found it did not have valid fishing pass. Along with the dinghy 02 persons and their fishing gear were also held by the Navy.

The accused were identified as residents of Pesalai, aged 20 and 23. The apprehended persons and seized items were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Mannar for onward investigation.
