Navy contributes in conservation of coastal environment

Two beach clean-up drives of the Sri Lanka Navy, were successfully carried out in the Southern and Southeastern Naval Commands, today (11th July 2020).

Accordingly, the beach area around Galle Fort and beach area in Godawaya, Hambanthota were cleaned by the Southern Naval Command while beach area around Panama lagoon was cleaned by the Southeastern Naval Command. These cleaning campaigns were conducted under the guidance of Commander Southern Naval Area Rear Admiral Kassapa Paul and Commander Southeastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesooriya, with the participation of officers and sailors attached to the Naval bases in these commands. All healthcare guidelines issued by Ministry of Health were strictly followed during the cleaning activities.

In view of conserving the beaches polluted by the careless disposal of garbage to the sea, SL Navy carries out a number of eco friendly programmes of this nature and Navy is committed to protect coastal eco system.
