Hindu Puja invokes blessings on Navy’s 73rd Anniversary

A special Puja of Hindu tradition was conducted on 1st December 2023 at the Sri Ponnambalawaneswarar Kovil in Colombo, seeking blessings for the upcoming 73rd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy, slated for the 09th of December.

The religious segment which is part of the anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Navy commenced with the Kanchuka Puja at Ruwanwelisaya and Flag Blessing ceremony at sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi on 16th and 17th November. Meanwhile, the Joint Christian Commemoration & Thanksgiving Service was held at All Saints' Church – Borella on 21st November. Further, the All-night Pirith Chanting and Alms Giving for the members of Ven. Maha Sangha were held on 24th and 25th November in the Welisara Naval Complex.

The Hindu Puja was conducted by the Priest Naajendran Sharma Surendran and the event was presided over by Director General Budget and Finance, Rear Admiral Chaminda Jayapala. During the special ceremony of Hindu religious rites and rituals merits were transferred to fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on serving and retired naval personnel as well as their family members.

Commodore Electrical And Electronic Engineering Department(West), Commodore Ruwan Weththasinghe, Deputy Area Commander Western Naval Area, Commodore Buddhika Rupasinghe and a group of naval personnel from the Navy headquarters and Western Naval Command were present on this occasion.
