Twenty nine (29) Direct Entry officers pass out at Naval and Maritime Academy

A colourful ceremony saw the passing out of 29 Direct Entry officers of the 1/ 2022 intake of Volunteer Naval Force at the main parade ground of Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA) in Trincomalee today (29th December 2023). At the invitation of Commandant NMA, Commodore Buddhika Liyanagamage, the event was graced by Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Suresh De Silva, as the Chief Guest.

Those who excelled during the training were presented with special awards by the Chief Guest. Accordingly, Acting Sub Lieutenant JALD Kumari was adjudged the Best Direct Entry officer of the 1/ 2022 intake. Meanwhile, Acting Sub Lieutenant AP Ranathunga won the award for the Best Marksman and the award for the Best Sportsman was secured by Acting Sub Lieutenant ASS Wijesiri.

Addressing the officers being commissioned, the Chief Guest congratulated them on their achievement and expressed his gratitude to the parents of the officers for giving consent to their sons and daughters who joined the noble profession. The occasion was made more colourful by the entertaining items presented by the Navy Band and Cultural Troupe.

Director Generals of the Navy, senior officers from the Navy Headquarters and Eastern Naval Command as well as the parents of passed out officers were also present on this occasion.
