Newly appointed Commander of the Navy calls on the President
Upon assumption of duties as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera paid a courtesy call on Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, the President and Commander - in - Chief of the Armed Forces of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka at the Presidential Secretariat today (19th December 2022).

Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera assumes command as 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy
The President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, promoted Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera to the rank of Vice Admiral and appointed him as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy effective from 18th December 2022. Former Commander of the Navy Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, in a symbolic gesture, presented the Commander's Sword and officially handed over the duties of the Command to the incoming Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters this morning (18th December). A few minutes later, the newly appointed Commander of the Navy was accorded a Guard of Honour in accordance with naval traditions, at the Navy Headquarters.

Navy bids farewell to Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne
Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne relinquished command of the Sri Lanka Navy on completion of his tenure today (18th December 2022). He assumed office as the 24th Commander of the Navy on 15th July 2020.

The Chief of Naval Staff of India, Admiral R Hari Kumar who arrived in Sri Lanka on 12th December 2022 on an official visit, left for India from the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning (17th December 2022).

INS Sahyadri departs after successful naval exercise with SLN
The Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Sahyadri’ which arrived at the Port of Colombo on 13th December 2022 on an official visit, departed the island on 16th December 2022. On her departure INS Sahyadri conducted a successful Passage Exercise with SLNS Parakramabahu.

First-ever Inshore Patrol Craft Handling Foundation Course for Navy women successfully concludes
The first-ever Inshore Patrol Craft (IPC) Handling Foundation Course arranged for the lady officers and women sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy concluded on a successful note in Trincomalee recently. The course participants demonstrated their practical application of IPC handling before Commander of the Navy and Senior Officers at the Naval Dockyard Trincomalee on 15th December 2022.

Sixty-four (64) Midshipmen embark on their naval careers as commissioned officers in Trincomalee
The commissioning of Midshipmen of the 36th and 37th intakes of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and 62nd and 63rd intakes of Officer Cadets of Sri Lanka Navy was held at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee on 15th December 2022. At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, the ceremony was graced by the Chief of Naval Staff of India, Admiral R Hari Kumar.
