Navy takes lead in conserving sea turtles and sets free 97 hatchlings to ocean

The Sri Lanka Navy set free 97 sea turtle hatchlings at the Panama beach on 11th April 2023, in a bid to save these endangered marine animal. The Deputy Area Commander Southeastern Naval Area, Commodore Ruwan Rupasena was also in attendance on this occasion where the hatchlings were released. As part of the Turtle Conservation Project of the Sri Lanka Navy, the eggs of these hatchlings were conserved, to help them start the journey to adulthood.

Navy joins Kankasanthurai harbour facility expansion to commence new ferry service between Sri Lanka and India

The government of Sri Lanka launched a project for a passenger ferry service between the port of Kankasanthurai, Sri Lanka and Pondicherry, India to provide a more affordable and convenient mode of transportation. In support of this project, the Sri Lanka Navy has commenced facility expansion of the Kankasanthurai harbour, with a view to accommodate more traffic and provide better infrastructure.

Seva Vanitha New Year Fair and Western Naval Command New Year Festival successfully held in Welisara

The Sinhala and Hindu New Year Fair 2023, organized by the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit (NSVU), and Western Naval Command New Year Festival were successfully held at the Welisara Naval Complex on 10th April 2023. At the invitation of the President of NSVU Mrs Mala Lamahewa, the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera declared open the New Year Fair.

SLINEX-23 wraps up on successful note

The Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise (SLINEX) -23 came to a successful conclusion in Colombo seas on 08th April 2023. Commenced on 03rd April, SLINEX -23 marked yet another milestone in the maritime cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

INS Kiltan and INS Savitri arrive in Colombo to take part in SLINEX -23

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kiltan and INS Savitri arrived at the port of Colombo this morning (03rd April 2023) to take part in the Sri Lanka–India Naval Exercise (SLINEX) -23. SLINEX which is an annual maritime exercise between Sri Lanka and India, is scheduled to be held in Colombo from 03rd to 08th April.

Commander of the Navy visits Southern Naval Command

Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera embarked on an official visit to Southern Naval Command on 30th and 31st March 2023. During this visit, he looked into the operational readiness of the Southern Naval Command and delivered thought-provoking speeches to naval personnel in the Command. In his speeches Commander of the Navy highlighted the way forward of the Navy as well as financial and other challenges faced by men in the present day.
