Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presided over the awarding of insignia to 03 officers and 19 sailors of the 29th Special Boat Squadron (SBS) intake at the SBS Headquarters in Naval Dockyard, Trincomalee today (05th June 2022).

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) contingent which is expected to take part in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2022, hosted by the US Pacific Fleet, left for Australia from the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning (04th June 2022) by a special flight arranged by Royal Australian Air Force. The SLN contingent comprises 50 naval personnel including both officers and sailors.

Two (02) navy-built Reverse Osmosis plants at Aranthalawa International Buddhist Centre and Ihala Diggala Primary School in Galewela were vested with the public on 02nd and 03rd June 2022. The initiatives came to fruition as part of the Social Responsibility project of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne presided over the capping ceremony and pledging of allegiance to the service by 30 Naval and Air Force nursing students who studied at Naval Nurses’ Training School, SLNS Thakshila. The event was held at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, SLNS Parakrama on 26th May 2022.

The military autobiography - ‘Kalu Paraviyo’ authored by Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO) MGAP Madadeniya XS 38801 was launched at the Admiral Somathilake Dissanayake Auditorium, Navy Headquarters on 26th May 2022. The publication is an account of memorable experience and grim time the author spent in LTTE captivity, during the Humanitarian Operation. Meanwhile, a copy of the book was presented to Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters.

Continuing with the Mangrove Conservation Project of the Navy, two mangrove planting drives were conducted in the coastal area of Mannar and Arugam Bay Lagoon on 20th and 21st May 2022.

The Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) Training Squadron ships ‘KASHIMA’ and ‘SHIMAKAZE’ which recently arrived at the port of Colombo on a three day visit, departed the island today (21st May 2022) concluding their official visit.

As part of the Mangrove Conservation Project of the Navy, a mangrove planting drive was conducted in coastal areas of the Mandaitivu Island and Ponnalai Lagoon, Jaffna under the patronage of Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Priyantha Perera today (20th May 2022).

The Ambassador of the United States to Sri Lanka, H.E. Julie J. Chung met with Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne at the Navy Headquarters today (20th May 2022).

The Commander in Chief of Armed Forces, His Excellency the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (19th May 2022) presided over the National War Heroes’ Day Commemoration 2022 held at the National War Heroes’ Monument in Battaramulla. The ceremony held in a dignified sequence was attended by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.
