UNODC organises Inshore Patrol Craft Handling Course for lady officers

The Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP) of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) organised a special Inshore Patrol Craft Handling Course for lady officers who are from various maritime law enforcement agencies. The programme commenced at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on 24th July 2023.

Navy official website takes top honours in ‘BestWeb.lk 2023’

The official website of Sri Lanka Navy (www.navy.lk) has won the gold award in the Government Category in the ‘BestWeb.lk 2023’ - Sri Lanka's only website evaluation competition, hosted by LK Domain Registry. In an impressive display of digital prowess, the Navy’s official website has also won the bronze award from over 750 websites contested in the Overall Category.

Mangrove planting initiative takes root in Northwestern Naval Command

Coinciding with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem (26th July), the Sri Lanka Navy on 14th and 21st July launched a mangrove planting initiative in Kappaladi of Kalpitiya and salt marshes of Malwathu Oya, joining hands with the Ministry of Environment and Dilmah Tea.

Navy organizes leadership training and awareness programme for school children

The Sri Lanka Navy arranged a training and awareness program to enhance the leadership abilities of young men and women, with a view to encouraging future leaders to realize their responsible role in building a prosperous nation. The initial phase of the programme involved arranging a leadership training and awareness event for 158 school children. These students were selected from 16 different schools in the Colombo area and are about to finish their school education. The segments of the programme were held at the Navy Headquarters, Colombo harbour and Welisara Naval Complex today (21st July 2023).

Senior officers of JMSDF ship SAMIDARE (DD-106) call on Commander of the Navy

The Commander, 01st Surface Group and Flag Officer of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) SAMIDARE (DD-106), Rear Admiral NISHIYAMA Takahiro and Commanding Officer of SAMIDARE (DD-106), Commander OKUMURA Kenji called on Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera at the Navy Headquarters today (21st July 2023). SAMIDARE (DD-106) arrived in Sri Lanka on 20th July with a view to strengthening cooperation with partner navies in the Indo-Pacific region.

Sixty nine (69) nurses completed training at Naval Nurses’ Training School awarded diplomas

In a momentous ceremony held on 20th July 2023, sixty nine (69) of dedicated and skilled nurses proudly received their well-deserved diplomas, marking the successful completion of their nursing diploma course. This batch of naval nurses belong to the 2018 and 2019 batches of the Naval Nurses’ Training School in Welisara which is affiliated to Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Vice Chancellor of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Major General Milinda Peiris. The event was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne.

Commander of the Navy visits North Central Naval Command

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera embarked on an official visit to the North Central Naval Command on 18th, 19th and 20th July 2023. During this visit, he looked into the operational and welfare matters of the command and addressed a cross-section of officers and sailors at SLNS Thammanna. In his addresses, the Commander of the Navy emphasized the importance of operational readiness and shed light on as how to address various challenges confronted by naval personnel.

JMSDF ship SAMIDARE (DD-106) arrives at port of Colombo

The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Destroyer SAMIDARE today (20th July 2023) arrived at the port of Colombo on an official visit. Upon her arrival, she was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in accordance with naval traditions.
