Navy seizes 685kg haul of illegally transported dried sea cucumbers in Mohoththuwaram seas

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Mohoththuwaram sea area, Kalpitiya on 23 Feb 26 resulted in the seizure of a large stock (685kg) of dried sea cucumbers being illegally transported by sea. The operation also led to the apprehension of a suspect (01) and a dinghy (01) used for this illegal act.

The operation, carried out by SLNS Vijaya under the Northwestern Naval Command, led to the inspection of the suspicious dinghy in the Mohoththuwaram sea area. Upon searching the dinghy, naval personnel recovered 685kg of dried sea cucumbers in it.

The suspect, aged 34, held in this operation, is a resident of Kalpitiya. The suspect, along with the stock of sea cucumbers and the dinghy, was handed over to the Katunayake Customs Preventive Office for further legal action.
