Navy nabs 07 persons for engaging in illegal fishing practices

The Navy apprehended 07 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Kinniya, Sinnaweli, Sallimunei, Nandikadal, and Vankalai from 19 to 24 Feb 25. The individuals had engaged in night diving and used explosives, when they were apprehended. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 02 fishing boats, 65 unauthorized nets, 04 detonators, 02 gelignite sticks and 04 safety fuses.

Seventeen (17) individuals apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended 17 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Kokkadi, Nandikadal, Mullaitivu, Anawasala, Sinnapadu and Kadeikadu from 03 to 19 Feb 25. The individuals had engaged in fishing using explosives, fishing with unauthorized nets sans valid license and illegal night diving, when the apprehensions were made. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 12 fishing boats, 01 motorbike, 156 unauthorized fishing nets, 184 sea cucumbers and 22 conch shells.

Navy seizes 03 Indian fishing boats poaching in Sri Lankan waters

The Sri Lanka Navy seized 03 Indian fishing boats and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar and off the Delft Island in the dark hours of 19 Feb 25.

Five (05) individuals apprehended for engaging in illegal fishing

The Navy apprehended 05 persons for their involvement in illegal fishing practices, during separate operations conducted in the sea area of Muddalampiddi in Kilinochchi and Nandikadal lagoon in Mullaitivu from 03 to 12 Feb 25. The individuals engaged in illegal night diving and fishing with unauthorized nets when the apprehensions were made. The operations also resulted in the seizure of 04 fishing boats and 250 unauthorized fishing nets used for these illegal acts.

The Sri Lanka Navy seized an Indian fishing boat (01) and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area south of Mannar in the dark hours of 02 Feb 25.

Navy apprehends 02 persons for illegal transportation of sea cucumbers in Venpuravinagar, Jaffna

The Sri Lanka Navy on 20th January 2025 apprehended 02 persons for illegal transportation of sea cucumbers in the coastal vicinity of Venpuravinagar, Jaffna, without valid license. The search operation also led to the seizure of a dinghy and 130 sea cucumbers.

The Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard seized an Indian fishing boat (01) poaching in Sri Lankan waters and apprehended 10 Indian fishermen, during a special operation conducted off the Kovilan Lighthouse, Jaffna in the dark hours of 08th January 2025.

The Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard seized 02 Indian fishing boats and apprehend 17 Indian fishermen while they were poaching in Sri Lankan waters, during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar in the dark hours of 23rd December 2024.

Navy apprehends 06 persons for engaging in illegal fishing practices

Separate search operations conducted by the Navy at the Fishing Observation Point of Palleimunai in Mannar and Mohoththuwaram beach area of Ilangathurei in Trincomalee on 07th and 09th December 2024 led to the apprehension of 03 suspects together with a dinghy for illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers and another 03 persons along with a dinghy for using explosives for fishing activities.
