Navy takes hold of about 224kg of Kendu leaves in Negombo

During a search operation carried out on 01 Jan 26 in the lagoon area of Negombo, the Sri Lanka Navy seized over 224kg of smuggled Kendu leaves.

The search was carried out by SLNS Kelani, in the Western Naval Command, leading to the recovery of 06 suspicious sacks in the lagoon area of Negombo. Those sacks contained over 224kg of Kendu leaves, which were believed to have been abandoned by smugglers, due to heightened surveillance of the Navy in the area.

The stock of Kendu leaves was subsequently handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal proceedings.
