A search operation conducted by the Navy in coordination with the Excise Department in the Alankuda area of Puttalam on 19th September 2024 led to the seizure of 810kg of smuggled Tendu leaves.

Two suspects with smuggled stock of insecticides held in Kalpitiya

In a successful search operation, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 02 suspects along with a stock of smuggled insecticides off Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya, in the dark hours of 17th September 2024. The operation also resulted in the seizure of a dinghy (01) used to smuggle insecticides.

A suspect with 650 mobile phones held in Karamba, Puttalam

A combined search operation by the Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Police at the roadblock in the Karamba area of Puttalam on 27th August 2024, led to the arrest of a suspect found in possession of 650 mobile phones, suspected to have been smuggled. The arrest was made when the suspect was transferring the devices by a cab.

The Navy took hold of about 410kg and 800g (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves, during separate search operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Mannar and Kalpitiya on 10th and 11th August 2024.

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard off the Kudiramalei Point of northwestern seas, south of Mannar on 09th August 2024, led to the interception of 03 dinghies with about 2,068kg (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves and 06 suspects.

About 3524 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves recovered in Kalpitiya

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach area of Kandakuliya and sea area off Uchchamuni of Kalpitiya on 08th August 2024, led to the recovery of about 3524kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves. It is believed the consignment of Tendu leaves was smuggled into the country via sea.
