Navy takes hold of more than 410kg of smuggled Tendu leaves in separate operations

The Navy took hold of about 410kg and 800g (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves, during separate search operations conducted in the beach and sea areas of Mannar and Kalpitiya on 10th and 11th August 2024.

Three (03) dinghies with 2,068kg of Tendu leaves and 06 suspects intercepted in northwestern seas

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard off the Kudiramalei Point of northwestern seas, south of Mannar on 09th August 2024, led to the interception of 03 dinghies with about 2,068kg (wet weight) of smuggled Tendu leaves and 06 suspects.

About 3524 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves recovered in Kalpitiya

A search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the beach area of Kandakuliya and sea area off Uchchamuni of Kalpitiya on 08th August 2024, led to the recovery of about 3524kg (wet weight) of Tendu leaves. It is believed the consignment of Tendu leaves was smuggled into the country via sea.

Navy apprehends a suspect with about 689kg of smuggled Tendu leaves in Puttalam

During a search operation at Erambugodella Beach in Puttalam, this morning (08th August 2024), the Navy seized approximately 689 kg of smuggled Tendu leaves being loaded onto a lorry. The operation also led to the apprehension of a suspect and the seizure of a dinghy and the lorry involved.

Navy retrieves 04kg and 740g of gold from Thorayadi Lagoon in Kalpitiya

A special search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy at Thorayadi Lagoon in Kalpitiya on 06th August 2024, led to the recovery of a parcel weighing 04kg and 740g of gold from the depths of the lagoon. Additionally, the Navy seized a dinghy near Thorayadi beach, which is suspected to have been used for smuggling the package.

Navy recovers commercial explosive cache from Mannar

The Sri Lanka Navy recovered a cache of explosives during a search operation conducted in the South Bar area of Mannar on 05th August 2024. The explosives included 60 gelignite sticks – a type of commercial explosive, 30 non electric detonators and 350g of C4 explosives. Additionally, the Navy apprehended a cab (01) at the scene, suspected of transporting these explosive materials.

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the sea area of Uchchamunai, Kalpitiya this morning (31st July 2024) led to the seizure of a dinghy loaded with smuggled dried turmeric weighing about 749kg and apprehension of 02 suspects.

Navy recovers about 778kg of smuggled dried turmeric in Puttalam

A search operation conducted by the Navy in the beach vicinity stretching from Wellamundalama to Kolankanaththa in Puttalam in the evening of 17th July 2024 led to the recovery of about 778kg (wet weight) of dried turmeric. It is suspected that the consignment of dried turmeric was smuggled into the country via sea routes.
