Navy stands ready with relief teams to respond flood emergency

As severe weather conditions threaten the island, the Sri Lanka Navy proactively deployed 03 relief teams on 24th November 2024, to vulnerable areas of Akuressa and Athuraliya in Matara district. These teams are actively engaged in disaster relief operations, working tirelessly to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.

Following the heavy rainfall, the rivers of Nilwala and tributaries have reached their overflow levels. To address the ensuing flood risk, 03 Navy flood relief teams, with lifesaving equipment, have been deployed to the flood-risk areas.

Relief teams, equipped with dinghies, facilitated transportation for school children sitting for the G.C.E. A/L examination this morning (25th November). They also extended essential support to communities, enabling them to carry out their daily activities.

In addition, 134 Navy relief teams are on standby, prepared to be deployed immediately to assist the public in the event of flooding.
