Swift response rescues 02 pilots of seaplane plunged into Gregory Lake

A swift response by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police resulted in the rescue of 02 pilots after a private airline seaplane plunged during landing at Gregory Lake, Nuwara Eliya today (07 Jan 26).

The incident occurred as the seaplane was landing at the lake to take off a group of tourists in the area. The Navy lifesavers from the Rapid Response Rescue and Relief Unit (4RU) on duty at the Gregory Lake premises, immediately initiated a rescue operation. The team successfully rescued both pilots from the seaplane and transferred them to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital for medical attention.
