MRCC Colombo coordinates bringing ashore distressed local multiday fishing trawler
A local fishing trawler in distress was rescued by the Indian Coast Guard with the coordination of the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Colombo. The rescued trawler is now being towed back to Sri Lanka by another local fishing trawler. The troubled fishing trawler experienced an engine malfunction while navigating in the northern waters, approximately 91 kilometers away from Point Pedro, and was adrift, edging closer towards Indian territory.

Navy assists transfer of ill fisherman rescued through coordination of MRCC Colombo
The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to bring ashore an ill fisherman whose life was at risk while aboard a local fishing trawler in southern waters of Sri Lanka. The fisherman was retrieved by a nearby bulk carrier, on being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo. After being brought ashore, he was rushed to the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya, Galle for medical attention.

Crew of 'Lorenzo Putha IV' held captive by pirates in Arabian Sea rescued in coordination with Sri Lanka Navy
A collaborative effort took place involving the Sri Lanka Navy and regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Centres (MRCCs) to rescue the fishermen aboard the fishing trawler ‘Lorenzo Putha IV’, which was forcibly taken into custody by pirates, while engaged in fishing activities in the Arabian Sea. As a result of this operation, the Seychelles Coast Guard today (29th January 2024) safely rescued the 06 crew members of the trawler, held captive by pirates.

Navy continues to deploy relief teams to aid flood victims in Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa
The Sri Lanka Navy, since 31st of December 2023, has mobilized its relief teams in flood-ravaged Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa districts following inclement weather. Accordingly, the Navy relief teams continue to provide assistance to students taking the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination and address the daily requirements of impacted communities.

Navy extends helping hand to flood victims in Trincomalee
The Sri Lanka Navy mobilized its flood relief teams to the Kinniya area of Trincomalee on 01st January 2024, to extend flood relief to affected communities in the area. As people in those localities are facing hardships due to floods in the wake of inclement weather, the Navy teams are currently working in full swing to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities.

Driven by a commitment to service, the Sri Lanka Navy has been a constant presence in flood-ravaged Parakramapura of Padaviya in Anuradhapura district since 03rd December 2023. Navy flood relief teams have been working tirelessly to help the affected community, and their efforts even continued on 23rd December.

Navy assists flood victims in Matara district
Following adverse weather conditions prevailing in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized its flood relief teams in Balakawala area of Athuraliya in the Matara district since 12th December 2023. Standing with flood victims, teams are providing much-needed assistance to those affected communities as of now.
