Navy continues to assist flood victims

Following adverse weather conditions prevailing in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized its flood relief teams in Matara, Akuressa, Thihagoda and Kamuburupitiya areas in the Southern Province as of 04th October 2023. These teams are currently engaged in providing assistance to the flood-affected individuals in those regions.

Foll adverse weather conditions, the Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized its flood relief teams in Akuressa, Athuraliya, Thawalama and Kamburupitiya areas in the Southern Province as of 28th September 2023. These teams are currently actively engaged in providing assistance to the flood-affected individuals in these regions.

Navy brings ashore 03 distressed local fishermen stranded in Indian waters following mechanical failure in fishing vessel

The Sri Lanka Navy today (17th September 2023) brought ashore 03 distressed fishermen who were aboard a local fishing trawler, which had capsized after drifting into Indian waters north of Sri Lanka. The fishermen were rescued by a Merchant Vessel before the Sri Lanka Navy brought them ashore, through the coordination of the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) Colombo. Upon being brought ashore, the fishermen were rushed to the District General Hospital, Hambantota for medical attention.

Navy renders assistance to safely transfer ailing Indian national from eastern seas

The Sri Lanka Navy today (29th August 2023) brought ashore an Indian national who had suddenly fallen ill while aboard the Cruise Vessel MV Empress off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka. Upon being brought ashore he was rushed to the General Hospital, Trincomalee for medical attention.

Navy brings ashore injured fisherman in southern seas for medical attention

The Sri Lanka Navy on 21st August 2023 brought ashore an injured fisherman who had sustained injuries following a brawl while aboard a local multiday fishing trawler. Upon being brought ashore, he was transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Navy rescues 07 fishermen on fire-hit fishing trawler in southern waters

In a dramatic operation, the Sri Lanka Navy rescued 07 fishermen, who were on a local fishing trawler which caught fire about 58 nautical miles (approx. 107km) off the Galle Lighthouse, west of Sri Lanka, on 11th August 2023. The operation was mounted in coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC) Colombo. The rescued fishermen were brought to the Galle harbour today (12th August) by SLNS Gajabahu.

Navy helps rescue of stranded whale in Puttalam lagoon, guiding it back to open waters

In a remarkable display of compassion, the Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance to rescue a stranded whale in the Puttalam lagoon off the Ippanthivu island, guiding it back to the open ocean waters today (08th August 2023). The stranded whale measuring approx. 20 feet in length belonging to the species of minke whale.

Navy brings ashore ill fisherman for medical attention

The Sri Lanka Navy on 01st August 2023 brought ashore an ill fisherman who had fallen ill while aboard a multiday fishing trawler. The fisherman was at sea, approximately 20 nautical miles (about 37km) southeast of Hambantota, as he was approached by the Navy.
