The new Sangha Council Building of Amarapura Sect was declared open by the Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa in Wellawatta on 15th August 2020 and the occasion was also joined by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne.

Navy-constructed Sangha Council Building of Amarapura Sect declared open

The new Sangha Council Building of Amarapura Sect was declared open by the Prime Minister, Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa in Wellawatta on 15th August 2020 and the occasion was also joined by Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne. The construction work of this new facility was undertaken by Sri Lanka Navy, utilizing its able manpower.

Meanwhile, a prize awarding ceremony to recognize the contribution of the dedicated team of naval civil engineering personnel who broke sweat to expedite construction work of the Sangha Council Building in a short span of time was also held on 14th August 2020. The event which was held under the patronage of Mr. Ajith de Zoysa, Vice President of Amarapura Dayaka Sabha was also attended by the Navy Commander, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, former Navy Chief Admiral (Retd.) Piyal De Silva, Director General Civil Engineering and a host of naval personnel.

The new Sangha Council Building of Amarapura Sect declared open by the Hon. Prime Minister has been dedicated to Sir Cyril de Zoysa, an iconic figure who made great contribution to the Buddhist faith. The Supreme Patriarch of Amarapura Sect Agga Maha Pandita Mahopadya, Most Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera, religious dignitaries, ministers, Commander of the Navy and a large group of people were also present at the opening ceremony.
