Commander of the Navy embarks on visit to Northern Naval Command

Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne embarked on an official visit to the Northern Naval Command on 03rd April 2021. The visit was also joined by President Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Chandima Ulugetenne.

During the visit, Commander of the Navy looked into the operational and welfare matters in the Northern Naval Command. Further, the Operations Room of Northern Naval Command was also subjected to the inspection of Commander of the Navy. Addressing the Heads of Departments, Commanding Officers and Officers in Command of ships and craft in the Northern Naval Command, at the Command Headquarters, Commander of the Navy emphasized that continuous patrols and search operations should be carried out to curb drug and other smuggling activities in the northern seas and to follow the instructions given to prevent foreign fishing vessels from entering Sri Lankan waters. The Commander also instructed senior officers in Northern Command, with regard to the arrangements to be made in making the State Vesak Festival 2021, to be held centering the Nagadeepa Rajamaha Viharaya, a grand success.

Up next, he declared open the newly constructed three storied junior sailor’s mess put up for the accommodation of junior sailors attached to Naval Fleet Command, at Sri Lanka Naval Ship ‘Uththara’. Commander of the Navy also much-admired the naval personnel who had expeditiously completed the construction of this three storied building which was constructed with the intention of expanding the accommodation facilities required for the sailors attached to fleet units in Northern Naval Command.

Further, the Commander of the Navy also called at the Roman Catholic College on Mandativu Island in Jaffna, which is to be developed by Sri Lanka Navy, as part of its Naval Social Responsibility Project in Northern Naval Command. To coincide with the 70th anniversary, Sri Lanka Navy, with financial contribution of each naval person, has set afoot this social responsibility project to develop essential facilities in several underprivileged schools across the country. Upon his arrival, Commander of the Navy was warmly welcomed by the Principal, staff and students of the school, where Vice Admiral Ulugetenne made the school staff aware and instructed Commander Northern Naval Area on the future amenity-development to be carried out by the Navy at the school.

Moreover, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne took part in a meritorious event where he declared open a three-storied pilgrimage hall at Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya, utilizing manpower enabled by the Navy.

Commander Northern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Senarath Wijesuriya, Deputy Area Commander, Commodore JP Premerathna, officer and sailors from the Naval Headquarters and Northern Naval Command were present on these occasions.
