Having found a whale shark entangled in a fishing net in seas off Trincomalee, the Navy on 29^th August 2020 made swift action to release the animal in desperate straits back to the ocean.

The poor animal that was in a struggle to escape from the entanglement was saved from the danger by a group of divers attached to the Eastern Naval Command.

The whale shark that has been listed as an endangered fish species is banned to be fished in Sri Lanka as well.
