Navy rescues 55 distressed individuals in high seas, while attempting to illegally migrate from the country
Sri Lanka Navy on 10th July 2022 rescued 55 individuals onboard a distressed local multiday fishing trawler, caught in a cyclone, in high seas about 390 nautical miles (722km) southeast of Hambantota. The group of people, suspected to be on an illegal migration attempt to a foreign country, were in a desperate situation when they were rescued at sea. Sri Lanka Navy brought the rescued group to the port of Hambantota this morning (12th July).

Poaching trawler in northern waters held by the Navy
Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation to chase away Indian trawlers poaching in northern waters of the island in the evening of 11th July 2022. Accordingly, the operation led to the seizure of an Indian trawler with 06 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters off the Kovilan Lighthouse.

MRCC Colombo renders assistance to rescue a group of distressed fishermen in high seas
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Colombo today (11th July 2022) coordinated the rescue of 03 fishermen whose lives were at risk aboard a distressed local fishing trawler at sea. The fishing trawler was in high seas southeast of Sri Lanka, about 174 nautical miles (about 322 km) from the Great Basses Reef Lighthouse.

Over Rs. 67 million worth Kerala cannabis apprehended by Navy in Mannar
The Navy took hold of over 225kg of Kerala cannabis, during special operations conducted in the beach area of Thewampiddi and Sand Banks in Mannar today (11th July 2022). The operations also led to the apprehension of a suspect in connection to one of the incidents.
