Sri Lanka Navy divers undertook a dedicated mission on 16th and 17th December 2023, to repair the malfunctioning sluice gates of the Peraru Reservoir. These efforts, prompted by recent heavy rainfall, aimed to facilitate the discharge of excess rainwater accumulating in the Peraru Reservoir, situated in the Peraru Kulam area of the Vavuniya district.

The Sri Lanka Navy conducted a special operation to chase away Indian poaching trawlers from Sri Lankan waters on 17th December 2023. The operation led to the seizure of 01 Indian trawler with 14 Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters off the Kovilan Lighthouse, Kareinagar.
