Navy pressed into action to clear blockage under Dodangoda Bridge in Galle

The Sri Lanka Navy on 17th January 2024 cleared a blockage under the Dodangoda Bridge which is over Gin River in Dodangoda area of Galle, ensuring the free flow of water downstream.

Following heavy rains, tree remains and other debris carried by raging waters of Gin River collect under the Dodangoda Bridge, hampering smooth flow of river water. Remaining ever alert to these developments, the Sri Lanka Navy often clears blockages beneath the bridge, to avert possible flood threat in the area.

As a result, a team of Navy divers and members of the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) from the Southern Naval Command were mobilized to remove the obstruction beneath the Dodangoda Bridge. Their swift action ensured that water could continue to flow downstream without interruption.
