Navy relief teams continue flood relief efforts

Following inclement weather prevailing in the country, the Sri Lanka Navy dispatched relief teams to the Akuressa and Athuraliya areas in the Matara district. The relief teams are currently (as of 26th November 2024) working in full swing to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.

With the heavy rainfall, the rivers of Nilwala and tributaries have reached their overflow levels. To address the ensuing flood risk, 03 Navy flood relief teams, with lifesaving equipment, were deployed to the flood-risk areas.

Relief teams, equipped with dinghies, facilitated transportation to communities in the Athuraliya, Balakawala and Arampathwala of Akuressa, enabling them to carry out their daily activities. The Navy ensured the safe ferrying of school children appearing for the G.C.E. A/L examination yesterday (25th November), addressing their transportation requirements efficiently.In addition, 134 Navy relief teams are on standby, prepared to be deployed immediately to assist the public in the event of flooding.
