Navy releases 7 sea turtles entangled in fishing net
Naval personnel aboard SLNS Nandimithra rescued seven (7) sea turtles trapped in a fishing net and safely released them back into the ocean on 26th November 2024. The distressed turtles were discovered in the western seas of Sri Lanka during a routine patrol.
Upon spotting the entangled turtles while patrolling the western waters, the Commanding Officer, Captain Kelum Marambage, promptly directed Navy divers to undertake the rescue operation.
Demonstrating skill and precision, the divers freed the turtles from their life-threatening predicament and returned them to their natural habitat.
