Navy renders assistance to transfer person bitten by snake amidst flood chaos
The Sri Lanka Navy rendered assistance on 28th November 2024 to transfer a critically ill individual bitten by a venomous snake. The patient had been receiving treatment at the Palugamam Divisional Hospital in Batticaloa and needed to be transferred to the Base Hospital in Kalawanchikudi. However, severe flooding had rendered the usual transportation routes impassable. In response, a Navy rescue team swiftly intervened to ensure the timely transfer of the patient.
The prevailing flooding between Aththukkadu and the Padiirippu Bridge in Batticaloa has rendered the area impassable. In this backdrop, SLNS Kashyapa has been actively involved in relief operations in the area. During this effort, a 17-year-old who was being treated for a snake bite at Palugamam Divisional Hospital was urgently transferred by naval craft to the Base Hospital in Kalawanchikudi for further treatment.
Following the directives of the Commander of the Navy, 135 more relief teams are kept on standby to respond to any emergency across flood-stricken areas in the country.
