Navy clears blockages beneath Kadewaththa bridge across Polathumodara River

In a remarkable display of its expertise, the Sri Lanka Navy on 29th November 2024 cleared blockages under the Kadewaththa bridge across Polathumodara River in Weligama, Matara.

Following heavy rains, tree remains and other debris, brought by raging waters of Polathumodara River, collect under the Kadewaththa bridge hampering smooth flow of river water. Responding promptly to a request of Matara District Disaster Management Coordinating Centre, the Navy sent a dedicated team attached to the Southern Naval Command for this task.

Accordingly , a team of Navy personnel from Diving, Rapid Action Boat Squadron, Medical and Harbour Defence units were pressed into action to clear the blockages under the Kadewaththa bridge, averting a possible flood situation.
